Lake Fort Smith, Arkansas

Short stop at Lake Fort Smith, Arkansas enroute to Kingsport, TN for ICBDA.  Only spent 2 nights, but greatly enjoyed the visit.

Trying to break up the drive from Arizona to Tennessee for ICBDA, we met up with Marlyn & Michele near Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Neither of us had been in that area before & we found a beautiful state park with spaces for our RV's.  The park was gorgeous, in the mountains, & very well maintained.  Also close to the Interstate & near a National Monument!  Win win all around.

After taking a relaxing morning to catch up from the 3+ day drive to get there, we drove into Fort Smith & found a great place for lunch.  The Bricktown Brewery had great service, food, & beer.  We are truly striking it lucky on this break!

After lunch we braved the 90+ humid heat & walked around the Fort Smith National Historic Area.  The visitor's center was closed, but we chatted with the sweet young ranger stationed outside the door.  It was really too hot to concentrate on history, so we just enjoyed the stroll through the tree lined green area & checked out the high points - the gallows where Judge Isaac Parker had 160+ folks executed during his reign.

We had hoped to join the evening narrated cruise on the lake, but it was full.  So we just enjoyed each other's company & relaxed.
