Antarctica Adventure #8, Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, 20 Dec 2019
A really early morning (4am!!!! wake up!!) flight got us out of the hotel, to the airport & in the air before we knew what was happening. The views of the mountains & the Beagle Channel are amazing. We got lucky & they moved us to the Exit row, so it was really comfortable!
We landed to a fabulous day in Ushuaia. It was upper 50's, mostly blue skies with some white fluffy clouds. Marlyn was the first to notice that the local guide waiting for us on the bus, Inez, was the same as we met when we were here 3 years ago!
Nice drive from the airport - the city hasn't changed much. Still an adorable quaint little town. Love all the touristy touches, like the prisoners escaping down the jail walls!
Had time for lunch on our own, so headed back to the pub we passed on the way in. Had a burger & brew & really enjoyed it.
Got lucky & we were assigned a room with a view of Beagle Channel!
We had time for a short walk along the harbor to look for birds. Also round the signpost to give us directions to Antarctica!!
We met about 4pm - had planned on a nice long walk, but the weather in Ushuaia is always unpredictable & it had clouded over & looked to be threatening rain & the temperature had dropped & the wind picked up....so, we hopped on the bus & took a drive around for a different view of the city.
On the way back, we stopped for some photo moments of the quintessential city exhibits.
Some of the others went to dinner, but George & I decided to relax for the evening & just played on the computers & drank our wine! Besides the gorgeous Beagle Channel views, we noticed the unusual trash accumulated below. Attack of the zombie manikins? It was a beautiful evening overall. Hang on things are about to get exciting!! See ya tomorrow!
