Visit with John & Connie in Sugar Grove, PA

- 10 July, 2021 - Heart's Content Scenic Area

Today's activity with John & Connie was a short (about 4 miles) hike in the Heart's Content Scenic Area in the Allegheny National Forest.  It's about 15 miles southwest of Warren, PA along gentle country roads - sometimes passing Amish farmers in their horse & buggies!!  It was a very pleasant sunny day about 70*.

The easy walk through the green green green forest is known for it's unusual rock formations.

We had taken sandwiches & we stopped for a pleasant lunch at the biggest of the rock formations.  We were mostly alone in the woods, but we did see one family that had apparently camped there & were also enjoying a wander through the woods with their dogs.  Only waved at each other.

We made a short stop at the Allegheny Forest Heart's Content Scenic Area Campground.  Don't think we'd fit in our RV!!

We made one more stop to visit Liberty, the local Audubon Society's Eagle.  She's got a damaged wing & could never be released back into the wild, so she provides an educational function for the locals.  They can drop off captured rats, mice, rabbits, etc for her consumption!  There's a nice boardwalk for bird viewing, but it was pretty hot & humid with a few bugs, so we didn't hang around too long.  Besides, it was time for happy hour!!!!
